Choosing a career is not an easy task, especially if the goal is for this choice to express and satisfy us. Every person dedicates a significant amount of their life to school and studies, and even more time to their profession. It is their means of livelihood, but ideally, it should also provide satisfaction and motivation. The teenager is called upon at a very special age to gain a clear understanding of who they are and what they want in life, so they can answer critical questions regarding studies, work, and family. Certainly, the personality and choices at this age do not remain static but evolve through the experiences they go through and the roles they take on.
Choosing a profession is one of the most important decisions in a person’s life and therefore cannot be taken lightly. The development of self-awareness matures the individual, making them mentally healthy and capable of making appropriate choices. Self-awareness and self-esteem, which essentially constitute personality, play a decisive role in both the choice of professional field and the choice of professional level. The clearer the self-knowledge and the greater the individual’s self-confidence, the easier the decision-making process and the more successful the professional choice.
To reach these ideal conditions, one goes through a continuous process of maturation and accumulation of information. To choose a job that expresses and inspires them for as many years as possible, one must go through various stages as follows:
Personality development and researchThe ideal scenario is for a person from a young age to explore their experiences, abilities, and interests in order to understand themselves and simultaneously orient themselves towards the world of work. They need appropriate stimuli from their family and social environment, as well as from the current educational system. They should also continuously seek valid information about what interests them in order to form a comprehensive picture. The maturity that comes with the years aids in the evolution of the selection process. The significant role and essential support of the family and school at this stage is emphasized, as the formation of each person’s identity is one of the most challenging processes and is directly influenced by many factors.
Exploration
Ideally, systematic exploration of potential professions begins as early as 14 years old. The previous stage brings to light preferences, abilities, and potentials, which likely align with certain broader professional fields. Therefore, the next step is to gather as much information as possible about each field. There is time to visit workplaces, for internships and observations, for discussions with professionals, and to explore the necessary prerequisites for practicing the profession (license, degree, postgraduate, etc.). Particularly, summer periods are suitable for internships and “on-site” research.
Studies and entry into the profession
At this stage, everything will be ready to implement the choices and decisions that arose from the previous stages. The young person, therefore, adapts and strives to succeed in the profession they have chosen. It is the period during which a person makes their choice, studies, and gradually enters the job market.The important thing at this point is for the young person to realize the significance of active involvement in the learning process. They should assimilate knowledge, learn how to learn, build their network, engage in continuous education, and constantly update their knowledge to secure the job position they are aiming for. Additionally, they must prepare all the resources they will need to secure their position or even further education: a flawless resume, various necessary accompanying documents, as well as interview skills (the ability to receive guidance and support from professionals).

Entering a profession requires smooth adaptation and dedication. If they pass through the previous stages, then the profession the individual will be in will likely reflect their personality, allowing them to do what they love, what motivates and satisfies them.
