Can one confidently say at the age of 17 that what they chose to study is the best for them? Such a decision, which concerns short-term studies but long-term practice of a specific profession, is multifaceted. Therefore, the ideal is to rely on various methods of information gathering as well as personal exploration. It is not surprising or negative that there is always a risk in this choice, just as in any kind of decision.

However, the sooner the realization of both the seriousness of such a choice and the timely preparation for it occurs, the greater the chances of it being successful. Timely preparation requires a continuous process of gathering information about studies and professions from elementary school years, as well as children’s exposure to various professions and professionals. At such an age, the reins for the progress and development of children lie with the parents and educators. Clearly, parents and educators can play a crucial role since they are the ones who will engage children in relevant activities, provide them with appropriate stimuli, and useful experiences.

In this way, they will discover various aspects of themselves, abilities, potentials, weaknesses, and interests, which will connect with the information provided to them about available study programs, educational destinations, and corresponding professions. The volume of information acquired during this journey is so vast that it is impossible to process it effectively only during the high school years.

The profession is a mirror of a person’s personality; through it, they express themselves, through it, they survive economically, and through it, they achieve self-actualization.Each of these is an even larger chapter, yet they convey the seriousness of the choice and necessitate the need to take corresponding steps, blending themselves into it, so that they can confidently arrive at a decision that represents them as much as possible.
