The skills that AI cannot replace.

Recently, I read a particularly interesting article in Forbes about the skills that will determine a professional’s success in the job market in the coming years. The article confirmed something I discuss almost daily with students, young professionals, and people who are in the process of changing careers. Many believe that in the age of Artificial Intelligence, the most important qualification is knowing tools like chatGPT or other AI tools. Undoubtedly, excellent knowledge of these technologies is now a significant advantage. However, on its own, it is not enough.

What is becoming increasingly clear is that as technology evolves, the skills that truly make us human gain greater value. According to the Forbes article and what I observe through my collaboration with employers, they are looking for people who can leverage artificial intelligence rather than compete with it.

However, they have never stopped seeking skills that make professionals effective in their daily lives. Those that stand out today are:

• Effective communication so that ideas and opinions are conveyed clearly and confidently.
• Storytelling.It concerns, for example, the ability to present one’s experiences and achievements in a way that inspires and creates value.
• Flexibility and adaptability because the job market (and not only) is changing faster than ever.
• Curiosity and the willingness for continuous learning that allow a professional to stay informed and evolve constantly.

Personally, I would add something that I believe can significantly contribute to a person’s journey in all areas of their life: the growth mindset .

Knowledge can be acquired, so technical skills (hard skills) can be taught. However, what makes the difference is the attitude towards challenges and changes. People who believe they can evolve, take initiative, and are not afraid to try are the ones who will stand out in the long run.

As a career counselor, I often see young people worrying because they lack sufficient experience or because they do not meet all the criteria for a job position. The reality, however, is that many employers are now looking for something more than an impressive resume. They seek people with a willingness to learn, take responsibility, and evolve.

Artificial Intelligence will continue to change the way we work. However, it will not replace empathy, meaningful communication, creative thinking, and human judgment.

If you are therefore a student, a university student, or a young professional, invest not only in technical knowledge but also in your personal development. These skills will be your greatest competitive advantage in the coming years.
